Girlfriends

So I have these girlfriends, there's two of them, Betsy and Jeni, and they are true blue.

They were in my corner when I announced I was going to play in the Main Event at the World Series of Poker, and yep, they sent flowers and tons of positive mojo. Jeni even made me a mixed CD of theme music. I still have it. When I announced I was going back to play in it again, they didn't even blink.

Years later, they were there at both of my parents funerals, with tears, hugs and tissues. They even stayed through the luncheons, so at least we could laugh as I cried.

When I recently decided to get rid of at least half of the stuff in my house,, they were there. Bringing an SUV to fill for donations, a trailer to haul things away with, or simply taking things I wanted to go to a good home. They were there.

Anything related to my career? Unconditional support. My home? "How can I help?" would be the common response. I live in Seattle? They come out to visit. Of course.

Flying in for a 40th Birthday party, or road-tripping to Chicago to celebrate another's 40th for a weekend? What gifts. So worth it. Special memories over the years. Grateful.

Walking. Catching up. Laughing, Staying connected. These are the type of friends that no matter how long it's been, you just pick up where you left off. Precious.

And the picture... I thought I'd go hike the Appalachian Trail, and here we are, the three of us, my backpack and smiles ~ unwavering support.

Thank you, girlfriends.

May all of you out there have people like this in your life. If not today, then someday.

It makes a difference.
